When you first launch the app, an onboarding wizard appears. There are two ways to get started.
Start with Naia (Recommended)
The easiest way — free and no API key needed.
- Click the Naia button on the onboarding screen
- A browser opens to the naia.nextain.io login page
- Sign in with your Google or Discord account (registration is automatic)
- You'll be automatically redirected back to the desktop app
- You receive 500 free credits on sign-up
With a single Naia account, you get access to multiple LLM providers, live voice conversation, multi-turn dialogue, settings backup & sync, and more. See 16. Naia Account for details.
Start with API Key
You can also enter an API key from providers like Google Gemini.
- Select a provider (Gemini, etc.)
- Click Next
- Enter your API key
- Click Validate to test the key
Onboarding Steps
After Naia login or API key entry, complete these steps:
1. Name Your AI
Give your AI avatar any name you'd like (e.g., "Naia", "Luna", "Cookie").
2. Your Name
Enter what Naia should call you.
3. Choose Character
Pick from 4 VRM avatars:

4. Choose Personality
Pick from 4 presets:

| Playful Joker | Humorous, bright tone |
| Calm Scholar | Intellectual, composed tone |
5. Choose Speech Style (Korean only)
This step only appears when the app language is set to Korean. Other languages skip this step automatically.
Pick how your AI speaks:

6. Complete
You can optionally connect a Discord bot from this screen. Click Get Started to enter the main screen.
